Fall is such a bustling time in our museums – and this year is no exception! Starting this month, we welcome K-12 students and teachers back for field trips, Storyliving presentations, and interactive workshops. See all of our educational offerings here.
In addition, on Friday, October 2 at the Detroit Historical Museum and Friday, October 9 at the Dossin Great Lakes Museum, we’re welcoming homeschoolers ages 6+ for specially designed learning days. Homeschool families are invited to take a small-group tour of our permanent exhibitions and then explore each museum independently afterward. Registration is open now!
Autumn also brings some fun special events. First, join us for an unforgettable evening of riverfront music, cocktails, and dancing at Dossin After Dark on Friday, September 25. Enjoy a festive night out that also supports the future of the museum and the Society.
And save the date for spooky season! We’re offering a few opportunities this October:
- Friday, October 23 – spend a family friendly day at Upland Hills Farm in Oxford.
- Sunday, October 25 – don’t miss Treats in the Streets, our annual family friendly Halloween party at the Detroit Historical Museum, with a sensory friendly early entry option available.
- Thursday, October 29 – visit for free evening admission and the lecture “Detroit Was Wild About Harry (Houdini)” by Jeremy Dimick, Director of Collections and Curatorial, at the Detroit Historical Museum.
- Thursday, October 29 – take a ghost tour of historic Whole Hearted Winery in the town of New Hudson.
- Saturday, October 31, Houdini 100: Magic and Mystery – step beyond the ordinary and into the strange and spectacular world of Harry Houdini at the Detroit Historical Museum, as we mark 100 years since the magician's death in Detroit on Halloween night.
This fall also marks the return of The Hustle, the second round of an exhibition series featuring Detroit's unsung entrepreneurs at the Detroit Historical Museum. The first exhibition will open to the public on Friday, October 23 followed by a day of programming designed for women entrepreneurs: the HustleHERS Resource Summit on Saturday, October 24. Participation is free, and registration is open now.
