Please join us as we visit our special exhibition in the Community Gallery, The Amplification Project: Women Artists of the Arab Diaspora (Detroit). Focusing on contemporary Arab women artists connected to Detroit, it explores migration, inheritance, and life between cultural geographies. Unfolding as a visual and auditory environment, the exhibition features artworks, installations, film, poetry, and recorded narration inspired by hakawati (a centuries-old tradition of Arabic oral storytelling) accompanied by ambient soundscapes.
Our guest presenter, Biba Sheikh, and a panel of artists invite our audience to reconsider art not simply as something to be viewed, but as a form of witness, a translation of survival and human understanding.
This event will feature traditional Middle Eastern fare, trivia (with fun prizes), and time to explore the rest of the museum. Member Mornings are appropriate for all ages!
