Attention local artists! The Detroit Historical Society is seeking an original design that will become a permanent mural on the west facing wall of the Dossin Great Lakes Museum. Your design should spotlight Detroit’s history through the lens of Great Lakes maritime heritage, fishing, boating, Belle Isle, or other Detroit-specific stories. Original works will be juried by a committee made up of community advisors and the Detroit Historical Society.

The selected artwork will be translated into a 32 x 8-foot horizontal mural comprised of sixteen 4-foot square paint-by-number style panels that will be painted by the community over the summer and then assembled and hung on the building. This mural will showcase the artistic voice and talent of Detroit’s art community, our maritime history, and the history of our region as well as pay homage to the innovative spirit of Paint-by-Number, which was developed and started in Metro Detroit.
