The view looks upward and shows a middle-aged man who is looking out one the windows at the front of the pilothouse. He is wearing a white shirt , a dark-colored tie, and captain's hat. A spotlight, mast, and cylindrical tank are partially visible above the pilothouse, and a line of portholes can be seen along the lower level. Handwritten black ink text on the verso reads "Cap. Mooney stargazing on the Peter White, 8-39."
