Rifle, Percussion
One muzzle-loading, under-hammer, .50 caliber percussion rifle. The rifle has an octagonal steel barrel with an aperture sight on top. The gun stock and ramrod are made of walnut wood that has been finished with brown stain and a clear low-gloss lacquer or varnish. Both sides of the stock have several tear-shaped and star-shaped brass ornamentations. The percussion assembly, trigger, trigger guard, and butt plate are made of steel. An engraved marking on the large star-shaped ornamentation on the left side of the stock appears to be an Old English style "R" or "K" with an upturned arrow at the center. Another engraved marking on the right side of the gun near the ramrod base appears to be an Old English style "P" with an upturned arrow at the center. It is not known if these are owner's or maker's markings.
