Model
One model of St. James Lutheran Church which was located at the southwest corner of Humboldt and Poplar Streets in Detroit. The model is made of wood paneling pieces that have been cut and glued together in order to create a model of the church building which was originally constructed in 1892. Wood strips have been glued on the exterior sides of the model and painted white to resemble a wood frame construction style. Additional pieces of wood have been cut, glued, and painted/stained to form doors, steps, roofs, and various other exterior details. Paper printed in a red brick pattern has been glued along the bottom to resemble a building foundation. Small painted glass panels have been placed in cutouts along the sides of the church for stained glass windows. Two small white lightbulbs are located inside to the model to illuminate the simulated stained glass. The lightbulbs are connected to a 5-foot long, 2-wire electrical power cord. A small brass cross is affixed to the top of the church steeple. The model was made by Charles A. Portis.
