Flag
Regimental flag of the 1st Michigan Cavalry that was used in the Civil War. The flag is made of blue silk fabric that has a multi-color painted image at the center which resembles the Great Seal of the United States. The image depicts an eagle that has a red/white/blue breast shield and holds an olive branch in its right talon along with a bundle of thirteen arrows in its left talon. Thirteen gold-colored stars are shown in two arcs above the eagle and a red banner beneath it has gold-colored text that reads "First Michigan Cavalry." A banner held in the eagle's beak carries a quotation from the commanding officer, Brevet Brigadier General Thornton F. Brodhead, that reads "The Old Flag Will Triumph Yet." The flag has a 2.5-inch wide border of decorative gold-colored fringe sewn along three sides.
