Dress
One lady's two-piece dress. The dress is made of black cotton fabric that has narrow vertical white rope-like stripes. The bodice has a black crocheted collar with a scalloped edge, bishop sleeves with hook/eye closures at the cuffs, 12 flat black buttons down the center front, a short peplum, and is lined with white cambric fabric. It is trimmed with two strips of one-inch wide black sateen that are sewn diagonally (like inverted chevrons) on the sleeves at the elbows. In addition, two matching strips of black sateen are sewn at right angles above the left and right breasts. The unlined full skirt is gathered along a 1.5-inch wide waistband that has a button closure at the back. The skirt is trimmed above the hemline with two 1.5-inch wide horizontal strips of black sateen. The shape of the bodice and the size of the waistband suggest that the dress might have been used for maternity wear. No manufacturer's labels are visible.
