Cup, Coffee

One coffee (or tea) cup and saucer from the dining room of the Book-Cadillac Hotel in Detroit. Both pieces are made of white glazed china. The cup has a wide circular top with rounded sides, a small circular base, and a plain curved handle that has a flat top. The exterior sides of the cup are painted with a wide dark blue band which has a narrow gold-colored stripe painted along the upper edge at the rim. A matching gold-colored stripe is painted along the lower edge of the band along with a decorative gold-colored filigree design. The handle is pale blue and has narrow gold-colored stripes painted along the center and edges. The underside of the cup is stamped with a small black oval-shaped crown/lion manufacturer's logo along with small black printed text that reads "Royal Bavarian China," and "Hutschenreuther, Selb, Bavaria." The number, "13," is printed in gold-colored text to the right of the manufacturer's logo. Additional small blue printed text reads "Made in 1925 for The Book Cadillac," and "Furnished by Albert Pick & Co., Chicago" as well as "Pat. April 7th 1925."

The saucer has a plain, curved rim with a rounded outer edge. The top surface of the rim is painted dark blue with narrow gold-colored stripes painted along the outer and inner edges. In addition, the inner edge is printed with a decorative gold-colored filigree design. Also, a narrow gold-colored circular stripe is painted around the edge of the indented cup base. The underside of the saucer is stamped with a small black oval-shaped crown/lion manufacturer's logo along with small black printed text that reads "Royal Bavarian China," and "Hutschenreuther, Selb, Bavaria." The number, "2386," is stamped near the manufacturer's logo. Additional small blue printed text reads "Made in 1924 for The Book Cadillac," and "Furnished by Albert Pick & Co., Chicago."
