Bookstand

One brass bookstand from the altar of St. James Lutheran Church, Detroit. The rectangular stand has short turned brass feet at the four corners and a framework of rectangular brass bars that hold decorative brass filigree panels on the four sides. The top panel of the bookstand consists of a flat brass sheet that has two engraved border lines and an engraved cross at the center. The front edge of the panel has a short curved lip for a book edge support and is hinged at the underside front corners. A hinged brass bar near the middle of the panel underside fits into two notched bars that are located inside the bookstand and allow the angle of the top panel to be adjusted. No manufacturer's name or marks are shown.
