La Tiara

One cigar box top illustration, "La Tiara," that was done by the Calvert Lithographing Company of Detroit. The drawing includes three images and was done in watercolor on a thin sheet of white art board. The large central image shows two ballerinas who are wearing colorful costumes and are seated on stone steps in a garden setting. Smaller images on either side of the central image show garden scenes which include stone steps, walls, and buildings as well as trees, shrubs, and flowers. The central image is surrounded with a decorative red and gold-colored scrollwork border. Red and gold-colored text above the image reads "La Tiara." The two smaller images have decorative gold-colored scrollwork borders. The artist's name or marks are not visible. A white adhesive label on the verso has black printed and handwritten text that reads "No. A, 40." Adjacent black and white printed text reads "This Sketch is the Property of the Calvert Lithographing Co., Detroit, Mich., 'The Model Shop' and Is To Be Returned to Them Whether Accepted Or Not." Additional printed text reads "It Must Not Be Exhibited Without Our Consent To Our Competitors Nor Used In Any Way." A blue ink stamp has text that reads "This sketch in the property of the Calvert Lithographing Co., Detroit, Mich., and is to be returned to them whether accepted or not." A black ink stamp has text that reads "Art Gallery of Windsor, 13." The drawing is mounted in a tan matte board frame.
