La Flor de Rodney
One cigar box top illustration, "La Flor de Rodney," that may have been done by the Calvert Lithographing Company of Detroit. The drawing was done in watercolor on a sheet of white art board. It shows a head and shoulders portrait image of Caesar Rodney, a signer of the Declaration of Independence from Delaware. The image is shown on a circular, dark red background that has a decorative green and gold-colored scrollwork border. An image of the Declaration of Independence is shown at the lower left corner of the portrait. A quill pen, ink well, papers, and books are shown at the lower right corner. White and gold-colored printed text above the portrait reads "La Flor de Rodney," and a facsimile signature, "Caesar Rodney," is shown in gold-colored text at the bottom. The artist's name or marks are not visible. Handwritten pencil text on the verso shows the number, "2285." A black ink stamp has text that reads "Art Gallery of Windsor, 19." The drawing is mounted in a tan matte board frame.
