Bonnibel

One cigar box top illustration, "Bonnibel," that was done by the Calvert Lithographing Company of Detroit. The drawing was done in watercolor on a thin sheet of white art board and includes three images. A head and neck image of a thoroughbred racehorse is shown at the center of the drawing on a red/orange background. The black mare has a small white patch on the forehead and is wearing in brown leather bridle. A decorative scrollwork border with small white flowers surrounds the image and the name, "Bonnibel," is shown in blue and gold-colored text across the top. A small multi-color image of a mountain scene with a man on horseback is shown to the left of the racehorse and a similar scene with a woman on horseback is shown to the right. The artist's name or marks are not visible. A white adhesive label on the verso has black and red printed text that reads "No. A, 142." Adjacent black and white printed text reads "This Sketch is the Property of the Calvert Lithographing Co.," The lower portion of the label has been torn off and is missing. A black ink stamp has text that reads "Art Gallery of Windsor, 37." The drawing is mounted in a tan matte board frame.
