Drawing
One cigar box top illustration that may have been done by the Calvert Lithographing Company of Detroit. The drawing was done in watercolor on a thin sheet of white art board and shows a head and shoulders profile image of a British or American general, admiral, or commodore of the late 1700's - early 1800's. The image shows a middle-aged man who has thick brown hair and sideburns and is wearing a fore and aft bicorn hat as well as a dark blue overcoat that has an upturned collar. His hat has gold-colored edging and a decorative rosette insigina. The image has a light brown background with a decorative circular, gold-colored border. A small red/white/blue stars and stripes shield emblem is shown at the top of the border and a sword and rolled paper are shown at the bottom. The curled ends of a paper scroll are shown at the left and right sides. The artist's name or marks are not visible. A black ink stamp has text that reads "Art Gallery of Windsor, 28." The drawing is mounted in a tan matte board frame.
