Drawing
One cigar box top illustration that was done by William Steiner, Sons & Company of New York. The drawing was done in watercolor on a thin sheet of white art board and features an image of two young women in flowing white gowns and red sashes whose feet are resting on a small globe and the upper edge of a wide red band. They are holding a decorative black and gold-colored shield that has a small crown and ostrich plumes at the top. Two black eagles are depicted on the shield. Tall lighted flame torchieres are shown at the left and right sides of the central image along with decorative shields and arcs of six gold-colored medallions. Four additional medallions and palm fronds are shown on either side of the globe at the bottom of the image and are shown on a background that consists of a horizontal black band with gold-colored edges. An oval-shaped band of gray clouds forms a border around the entire drawing. The artist's name or marks are not visible. A white adhesive label on the verso has red printed text that reads "No. -----, Sketch," and "This sketch must be returned whether ordered or not, otherwise a charge will be made for same. Wm. Steiner, Sons & Co., 257-265 W. 17th Street, N.Y." A black ink stamp has text that reads "Art Gallery of Windsor, 25." The drawing is mounted in a tan matte board frame.
