Drawing

One cigar box top illustration that was done by William Steiner, Sons & Company of New York. The drawing was done in watercolor on a thin sheet of white art board and features an image of a smiling cherub that is seated on the upper edge of a decorative black and gold-colored shield on a green background. The cherub is holding a cigar in its right hand and is holding an open cigar box with its left hand. A decorative flower and bows arrangement can be seen along an arc formed by ribbons that are pinned to a wall in the background. Displays of seven gold-colored medallions of varying sizes are shown at the lower left and right corners of the drawing. The artist's name or marks are not visible. A white adhesive label on the verso has red printed and handwritten text that reads "No. 278, Sketch," and "This sketch must be returned whether ordered or not, otherwise a charge will be made for same. Wm. Steiner, Sons & Co., 257-265 W. 17th Street, N.Y." A black ink stamp has text that reads "Art Gallery of Windsor, 23." The drawing is mounted in a tan matte board frame.
