Drawing

One cigar box top illustration of an aristocratic young woman that was done by the George Schlegel Lithographing Company of New York. The drawing was done in watercolor on a thin sheet of white art board. It shows a head and upper torso image of a young woman who is wearing an elaborate pale blue and yellow silk gown with a yellow silk sash across her right shoulder. She is wearing a gold crown and an elaborate gold-colored necklace. Small bunches of colorful flowers are shown to the left and right along with decorative gold-colored scrollwork designs. The entire image is shown on a pale blue background. The artist's name or marks are not visible. A white adhesive label on the verso has mostly been torn off and a blue ink stamp has text that reads "Sketch No. S166" and "$20.00 will be charged for this sketch if not returned in one week. George Schlegel, 138-140 Centre St., New York." Handwritten pencil text reads "Countess Rosalie, Victorian Crown," and "S-166, Art Gallery of Windsor, 14." The drawing is mounted in a tan matte board frame.
