Dear Friends,
February is Black History Month and in the coming weeks, we invite you to explore programs and experiences that highlight the achievements, leadership, creativity, and resilience of Detroit’s Black community. From conversations and tours to student-led storytelling and community gatherings, this month offers meaningful ways to reflect, learn, and connect. Click through for a full list of upcoming events.
Also coming up this month, we’re beyond thrilled to announce the return of The Hustle, our multifaceted and award-winning project that launched in 2022 to celebrate the city’s unsung entrepreneurs.
The first round of The Hustle exceeded expectations with nearly 800 crowd-sourced nominations submitted and 73,000+ people who visited the Detroit Historical Museum to see the exhibitions featuring our 34 honorees. If you haven't already, you can explore the honorees’ stories in our oral history collection, a book, and a virtual exhibition.
And this spring, we’re doing it again! Mark your calendar - nominations open on Thursday, February 19.
Be well,

Elana Rugh
CEO, Detroit Historical Society
