View mid-century Detroit through the lens of photographer Norman Zadoorian, tracing a journey from the shadowed, noir-inflected images of the immediate post–World War II years to the vibrant, optimistic street scenes of the 1950s and beyond.
Shaped by his wartime experiences, Zadoorian’s early work captures a sense of distance and introspection in the city’s nocturnal life, while later photographs reflect a growing warmth and engagement with Detroit as both subject and muse. From candid street scenes to portraits of workers and intimate family moments, the collection reveals a deep affection for the city and its people, as well as a lifelong passion for photography that infused every aspect of his work.
