This pop-up exhibition for Detroit's Month of Design pays tribute to the contributions of nationally and internationally acclaimed Detroit-born fashion designers, brand strategists, industry entrepreneurs, trade and media specialists, as well as educators, curators, and fashion models.

In celebration of the 110th birthday of Lois K. Alexander-Lane (1916-2007), Founder and Director of The Harlem Institute of Fashion (1966), The Black Fashion Museum (1979), and author of the 1982 book Blacks in the History of Fashion, the LKAL Legacy, LLC in partnership with the Detroit Historical Society present RETRO4ward | Fashion Icons. This exhibition highlights the late Founder’s mission to raise and expand the cultural consciousness and acknowledgment of the contributions by people of the African diaspora to the trade of fashion.
