On the afternoon of October 18, 1914, Berkley’s Roseland Park Cemetery Mausoleum was dedicated, nearly five years after plans for its construction were first announced. As part of the design process, architect Louis Kamper traveled to Europe to study architectural precedents, bringing international inspiration to what would become one of Oakland County’s most significant interment sites. Kamper reserved a crypt for himself and his family within the mausoleum, joining other notable Detroiters laid to rest there, including two former mayors.
Join author, photographer, and architectural historian Dale A. Carlson at Roseland Park Cemetery for a discussion exploring the cultural and architectural history embodied in this remarkable space. Following the main program, adventurous attendees are invited to continue deeper into the historic grounds to learn about noted Black undertaker George H. Green and his mother, Minerva, whose lives and legacies remain part of the cemetery’s enduring story.
