Join us for an opening reception for The Amplification Project: Women Artists of the Arab Diaspora (Detroit) our newest exhibition in the Robert and Ann Bury Community Gallery. The evening will feature music and singing by Laith Alattar, poetry by Ibaa Ismail and Kamelya Omayma Youssef, and catering by Divine Dine Detroit.
Unfolding as a visual and auditory environment, the exhibition features artworks, installations, film, poetry, and recorded narration inspired by hakawati (a centuries-old tradition of Arabic oral storytelling) accompanied by ambient soundscapes. Together, image, voice, and sound trace arcs of rupture, resilience, and rebirth, revealing how artists shaped by diaspora and displacement find re-emergence and contribute new artistic languages rooted in Detroit’s Arab American community.
