Member Preview - New Dossin Exhibits

6 p.m. - 8 p.m.

 

Join us for a “Members Only” sneak preview of the two exciting new exhibits at the DossinGreat LakesMuseum.

 

As a member, you’ll be among the first to see Life on a Long Ship: Great Lakes Sailors and Dossin Great Lakes Museum: Celebrating 50 Years!  Curator Joel Stone will answer questions and discuss these exhibits in detail.

 

Light hors d’oeuvres will be served.

History of the Dossin

Dossin Great Lakes Museum
Saturday, April 24

 

John Polacsek, former curator of the museum for 30 years, will present slides and stories showcasing the DossinGreat LakesMuseum’s 50-year history!

 

Each presentation will last approximately 30 minutes and John will be available after the presentations to guide attendees through specific areas of the museum.

 

The program is FREE, but guests are encouraged to make donations at the door to help cover associated costs.

Dossin Great Lakes Museum Regatta

Sunday, April 25

 

Another year of racing brings new competition for the Detroit Rowing Club.  St. John’s Jesuit and St. Ursula from Toledo will compete for this year’s trophy!

 

The races begin at 12:15 p.m. with prime viewing available from DeRoy Hall. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

 

Guest may also join us inside the Museum for indoor rowing demonstrations offered from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

 

Don’t forget to check out our newest exhibits.

Dossin Gala
Dossin Great Lakes Museum
Friday, April 30
6 p.m.

The evening will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Dossin Museum and will include a silent auction filled with maritime-related items, a strolling dinner, and casino style games.

Guests will also have the chance to see two exciting new exhibits, Life on a Long Ship: Great Lakes Sailors and a special exhibit dedicated to the Dossin Great Lakes Museum’s 50th Anniversary.  The exhibits open April 24, 2010.

The event is sponsored by the Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority.

This event brings in much needed funds to support the Dossin Great Lakes Museum so that we can continue to provide educational programs and exhibits that celebrate the maritime history of our region.
