Detroit Historical Museum

Elizabeth Clemens, author of The Works Progress Administration in Detroit, will discuss the agency, which was created to put the unemployed to work, and how they built schools and libraries, provided clothing and shelter, and enriched the lives of Detroiters through literacy, health, and educational programs. It also brought art, theater and music to the masses through groundbreaking cultural programs, helping to create the infrastructure that enabled Detroit to develop into the “Arsenal of Democracy” and eventually, into one of America’s greatest cities.

Sunday, February 14


This Valentine's Day, give your sweetheart the gift of history.  Anyone wearing red on Sunday, February 14 will be admitted for half off the admission price. 

Everything red counts - red hat, red shoes, even a red ribbon in your hair!

Explore more than 300 years of Detroit history!  Visitors to the Detroit Historical Museum between Monday, February 15 - Sunday, February 21 will recieve one FREE admission (of equal or lesser value) with the purchase of one Museum admission at regular price. 

In addition, the Museum will be open each day from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Detroit Historical Museum
Saturday, March 27
10 a.m. - Noon


Join us for a celebration of spring!  This family-friendly event, back for a second year, has something for everyone.  Children 12 and under will decorate and fill their own bags with trinkets and candy.  The entire family will enjoy the Spring Variety Show by Richard Paul, hear a story, learn about old fashioned games and enjoy light refreshments. 

Admission to the event is FREE!
